Noun Plurals

A1EssentialLatin American Spanish

Kurz erklärt

Spanish nouns change form when they refer to more than one person, thing, place, or idea. Most plurals are made by adding -s or -es. The ending of the singular noun determines which one you use.

Bildung

noun ending in an unstressed vowel + -s; noun ending in a consonant + -es; final -z changes to -ces

Verwendung

  • Add -s after an unstressed vowel: casa becomes casas.
  • Add -es after most consonants: profesor becomes profesores.
  • Change final -z to -ces: lápiz becomes lápices.
  • A written accent may disappear when the stress stays in its natural position: canción becomes canciones.
