Yes-No Questions

A1EssentialLatin American Spanish

Kurz erklärt

A yes-no question asks whether something is true and can normally be answered with sí or no. In Spanish, you usually do not add a helper verb like English do or does. The words can stay in the same order as in a statement; your rising question intonation and the written question marks show that it is a question.

Bildung

¿ + statement + ?

Verwendung

  • Use a yes-no question to confirm information or ask whether something happens.
  • Write both the opening question mark ¿ and the closing question mark ?.
  • In speech, use question intonation to distinguish the question from a statement.

Beispiele

  • ¿Vives aquí? — Do you live here?
  • ¿Ella trabaja hoy? — Does she work today?
  • ¿Tienen café? — Do you have coffee?
  • ¿Es tu hermano? — Is he your brother?
