Simple Future

B1ImportantLatin American Spanish

Kurz erklärt

The simple future (futuro simple) describes what will happen or what someone expects to happen. It can also express a promise, a prediction, or a guess about the present. The same endings are used for -ar, -er, and -ir verbs.

Bildung

Add -é, -ás, -á, -emos, or -án to the complete infinitive: hablaré, comerás, vivirán. Common irregular stems include tendr- (tener), podr- (poder), har- (hacer), dir- (decir), and saldr- (salir); they take the same endings.

Verwendung

  • Future plans, promises, and predictions: Te llamaré mañana.
  • Expectations about a future event: El viaje será largo.
  • A guess about the present, often in a question: ¿Dónde estará Ana?

Beispiele

  • Mañana hablaré con mi jefe. — Tomorrow I will speak with my boss.
  • No te preocupes, llegaremos a tiempo. — Don’t worry, we will arrive on time.
  • ¿Cuántos años tendrá ese edificio? — How old do you think that building is?

Typischer Fehler

❌ Yo hablar á con ella mañana.

✅ Yo hablaré con ella mañana.

Do not separate the ending from the infinitive. The ending must also agree with the subject: for yo, use -é.

Merke

Keep the full infinitive and attach the ending. Every future ending except -emos carries a written accent.
