Budowa zdania i szyk wyrazów

There is i there are

A1Podstawoweangielski

W skrócie

Gdy mówisz, że coś gdzieś jest lub że coś istnieje, użyj there is albo there are. Wybór zależy od liczby rzeczy, o których mówisz: there is przy jednej rzeczy, there are przy kilku. Polskie „jest” i „są” często oddają ten sam sens, ale po angielsku na początku takiego zdania stoi there.

Tworzenie

There is + rzeczownik w liczbie pojedynczej; there are + rzeczownik w liczbie mnogiej. W pytaniu: Is there …? / Are there …? W przeczeniu: there isn’t / there aren’t.

Zastosowanie

  • Użyj there is, gdy przedstawiasz jedną osobę lub rzecz w danym miejscu.
  • Użyj there are, gdy mówisz o kilku osobach lub rzeczach.
  • Aby zapytać, czy coś jest, zacznij od Is there lub Are there.

Przykłady

  • There is a pharmacy near here. — W pobliżu jest apteka.
  • There are two cups on the table. — Na stole są dwa kubki.
  • Is there a bathroom here? — Czy jest tu toaleta?
  • There aren’t any tickets left. — Nie ma już żadnych biletów.

Typowy błąd

❌ There is two cups on the table.

✅ There are two cups on the table.

Przy liczbie mnogiej, takiej jak two cups, użyj there are, a nie there is.

Zapamiętaj

Jedna rzecz: there is. Kilka rzeczy: there are.
